George F Jones Scholarship Eligibiltiy

A current male of female student who is involved in the sport as a player, coach or administrator:

  1. Involved in the development and expansion of the game
  2. Enrolled in a full-time degree (graduate or undergraduate), diploma or certificate program at a Canadian college or university for the academic year commencing in the year in which the scholarship is granted. Students commencing their studies in the Fall are eligible.

General Guidelines:

  1. Unsuccessful applicants may reapply in a subsequent year.
  2. Successful recipients may not apply again.
  3. The scholarship is conditional upon the acceptance and continuance in the educational program of the applicant's choice. Verification of acceptance will be required.
  4. Applications must be mailed or couriered. Faxes or e-mails will not be accepted.
  5. The award recipient must agree to have her name and photograph publicized. He or she must be prepared to promote the scholarship as requested.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Involved and devoted to the game but does not have to be an active player.
  2. Must be involved in helping expand the game of rugby in places like inner cities, first nation reserves, small towns, immigrant communities etc.
  3. Must be able to demonstrate current involvement in the sport.

Application Requirements:

  1. A completed application form;
  2. A letter, not more than 250 words, describing the reasons why you would be a worthy recipient of the George F. Jones Scholarship. Include your contributions to the rugby community, how you have helped expand the game, other volunteer activities, your academic achievements, your most important accomplishments and your future goals;
  3. Two letters of reference from the two individuals named in your application. One must be someone who has been involved with you in the rugby community;
  4. An electronic photograph submitted on a disc with the application package or e-mailed to mrj@rugbycanadafoundation.ca.    We would prefer if the applicant is wearing a rugby jersey in the photo but that is not required (once submitted the photo will be the property of the Rugby Canada Foundation).

Applications may not be e-mailed, faxed or dropped off. Photos may be e-mailed to the above address (please note this in your application package if your photo is being e-mailed in). Please ensure all applications are in no later than 4:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2008.
Decisions: Scholarship winners will be notified by the last week of August. Only the winner will benotified. Thescholarshipcommitteethanksallapplicantsfortheirinterestinthe George F.
